Mon Jan 06 15:34:32 IST 2025: ## Oyo Implements New Check-In Policy Requiring Proof of Marriage for Couples

**Meerut, India** – Oyo Hotels has implemented a new check-in policy requiring couples to provide proof of their relationship before being allowed to check into their hotels. The policy, currently being trialled in Meerut, aims to address concerns raised by local residents regarding unmarried couples staying in Oyo properties.

The new rule mandates that couples, booking online or offline, must present documentation such as a marriage certificate or other proof of their relationship. While Oyo has granted its franchise hotels the discretion to refuse bookings from unmarried couples based on local sensitivities, failure to provide such documentation may result in denied accommodation.

“Oyo is committed to safe and responsible hospitality,” said Pawan Sharma, Oyo’s regional head for North India. “This verification policy is being implemented in response to concerns raised in certain areas, and we will continuously review its impact.”

The policy is not yet implemented nationwide. Oyo will assess its effectiveness in Meerut before considering a wider rollout. Customers are advised to check the specific policies of individual Oyo hotels on the company website or app before making bookings. Some Oyo hotels may still accept bookings from unmarried couples.
