Mon Jan 06 18:30:23 IST 2025: ## OYO Rolls Out New Policy Requiring Proof of Relationship for Couples in Hotels

**Meerut, Uttar Pradesh:** Budget hotel chain OYO has implemented a new policy in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, requiring couples to provide proof of their relationship before checking into hotels. The policy, aimed at addressing concerns raised by local civil society groups and residents, mandates that couples must present valid identification proving their relationship at the time of check-in, even for online bookings. Hotels can refuse bookings based on the presented proof.

OYO cites “local social sensitivities” as the reason for the new guideline, which is currently limited to Meerut but may be expanded to other cities based on feedback and impact assessment. The company emphasizes that the policy is under review and will be adjusted based on future feedback. While the policy is presented as a part of OYO’s broader strategy to cater to families, students, business travelers, and religious groups, the move has sparked debate on social media.

Currently, unmarried couples in other cities like Patna, Lucknow, and Delhi can still check into OYO hotels without providing relationship proof. However, the company may extend this policy to other locations depending on local responses. OYO aims to improve customer loyalty and encourage longer stays through this initiative.
