Mon Jan 06 20:53:44 IST 2025: ## Eco-Friendly Bamboo Cottages Bloom for Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India –** As the Maha Kumbh Mela prepares to welcome thousands of pilgrims to Prayagraj starting January 13th, a unique eco-conscious initiative is taking shape. Local resorts are embracing sustainability by constructing bamboo cottages to house visitors, providing a durable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional structures.

Alarkpuri Resort is leading the charge, showcasing newly built cottages crafted from Assam’s durable Murli bamboo. Resort operational manager Aditya Singh explained the decision, citing Prayagraj’s annual flooding which damages conventional buildings. The bamboo structures, built over six to seven months with the help of Assamese experts, offer a flood-resistant and sustainable solution. The project has also created employment opportunities in both Assam and Uttar Pradesh, boosting the local economies. Singh urged guests to participate in the “Zero Waste and Green Kumbh” initiative by avoiding plastic.

The arrival of the Anand Akhada, a prominent Hindu monastic order, further signals the approaching Mela. Their procession entered Prayagraj via Daraganj, marking the start of their participation in the Kumbh. The Anand Akhada, known for its educational institutions teaching Hindu scriptures, yoga, and martial arts, worships the Sun God, Suryanarayana.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, will run until February 26th, featuring key bathing rituals (Shahi Snan) on January 14th (Makar Sankranti), January 29th (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3rd (Basant Panchami).
