**Prayagraj, India** – The Maha Kumbh Mela, a massive religious gathering expected to draw over 450 million pilgrims to Prayagraj from January 13th to February 26th, will feature a state-of-the-art lost and found center utilizing AI technology. The “1920 Center” will digitally register lost pilgrims, employing facial recognition technology capable of matching current photos with images from up to 10 years ago and cross-referencing social media. The system will also translate various Indian dialects into Hindi and English.
The center, overseen by Sector Magistrate Gyan Prakash, aims to provide a “divine, grand, and digital experience.” Beyond registration, the facility includes a dedicated waiting area with approximately 100 beds, a toy center for separated children, and a team of doctors offering psychological support to anxious individuals. A police desk and reunion desk will also facilitate reuniting lost pilgrims with their families. Local police stations will be contacted to aid in locating missing persons. At least ten staff members will be present at the center at all times for registration and assistance.
These measures are part of the district administration’s broader efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the massive crowds expected at the Kumbh Mela, where pilgrims gather at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, for a holy dip. The administration is focusing on crowd management and fire prevention to mitigate potential risks during this historically significant event.
