**NEW DELHI, January 5, 2025** – India and Bangladesh concluded a significant exchange of fishermen detained by both countries over the past three months. The exchange, held near the western International Maritime Boundary Line on Sunday, involved 90 Bangladeshi fishermen returned by India and 95 Indian fishermen returned by Bangladesh. Additionally, India returned two Bangladeshi fishing vessels, while Bangladesh returned six Indian vessels. The handover was overseen by officials from both nations’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs and law enforcement agencies. This exchange follows recent assurances from India’s Ministry of External Affairs that the detentions do not signal a deterioration in Indo-Bangladesh relations, despite the incident occurring eight years after the two countries agreed on a Maritime Boundary in 2014.
