Mon Jan 06 17:12:04 UTC 2025: ## Prashant Kishor Arrested, Rejects Bail, Alleges Police Brutality

**Patna, Bihar –** Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was arrested Monday morning while participating in an indefinite hunger strike protesting alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary exam. Kishor, along with other supporters, was taken into custody from the protest site in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.

Following his arrest, Kishor was offered bail but refused to sign the order, stating it required him to promise not to engage in wrongdoing, a condition he rejected. He was subsequently jailed.

Kishor accused the Bihar police of mistreatment, alleging he was kept in a police vehicle for several hours without explanation and subjected to forceful transportation to various locations. He also refused a medical examination, claiming he had committed no crime. His lawyer, Y.V. Giri, further alleged police brutality, claiming protesters were physically assaulted and Kishor himself was punched and slapped.

The Jan Suraaj Party, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), accused the police of attempting to forcibly end Kishor’s fast by transporting him to AIIMS Patna and then to another undisclosed location. They also reported that police used lathis (batons) on the crowd gathered outside AIIMS.

Authorities countered that Kishor had been repeatedly warned to vacate the protest site at Gardani Bagh but refused to comply. Kishor’s party has announced plans to file a petition in the High Court on January 7th to challenge the BPSC exam’s alleged irregularities. The incident has further fueled tensions surrounding the ongoing controversy over the BPSC exam.
