Sun Jan 05 18:33:13 UTC 2025: ## Air Force Officer Arrested for Bribery in Andhra Pradesh

**VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh –** A Flight Lieutenant with the Indian Air Force has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of bribery. Flight Lieutenant Chaitanya Kumar, Station Logistic Officer (SLO) at Air Force Station Suryalanka in Bapatla district, was apprehended on January 5th, 2025, while accepting a ₹50,000 bribe.

According to the CBI, the arrest followed a complaint from a supplier who had provided goods to the Air Force station. Kumar allegedly demanded the bribe to settle outstanding bills for 200 mattresses, two Ahuja Amplifiers, and crane and trailer hire services. The supplier had initially quoted ₹2,499 per mattress and delivered the order in November 2024. Despite payment for the mattresses being received, Kumar demanded ₹40,000, later increasing the sum to ₹50,000, threatening to blacklist the supplier if the money wasn’t paid.

The CBI registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and caught Kumar red-handed during a sting operation. Searches are currently underway, and the accused will appear before the Special Judge Court for CBI Cases in Vijayawada on January 6th, 2025. The investigation is ongoing.
