TIRUPATI, INDIA – Two women pilgrims died and five others were injured early Monday morning when a 108 ambulance struck a group of seven devotees near Tirupati, police said. The accident occurred around 4 am between Rangampeta and Mangapuram, as the ambulance, traveling from Piler, hit the pilgrims from behind.
Police have registered a case under section 106 clause 1 of the BNS (likely referring to a local penal code). Tirupati Superintendent of Police L Subba Rayudu attributed the accident to low visibility caused by dense fog. He urged pilgrims walking to the Tirumala temple to stay on the side of the road and exercise caution during the foggy winter nights. The injured are receiving medical treatment.
