Mon Jan 06 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Early Spring Blooms Amidst Impending Deep Freeze: Jeju’s Unexpected Crocus and Severe Weather Forecast

**JEJU ISLAND/SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA** – While early-blooming crocuses in Jeju Island’s Sara봉 Park delighted onlookers today, South Korea is bracing for the strongest cold snap of the winter, bringing heavy snowfall and potentially life-threatening temperatures.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) warned of a significant temperature drop starting Tuesday (7th), with sub-zero temperatures expected across most of the country. A severe cold wave warning is highly likely for many regions, including Seoul. The lowest temperatures are projected to be between -13°C and 0°C nationwide on Tuesday, a sharp decrease from today’s range of -4°C to 5°C.

The coldest temperatures are expected on Thursday (9th), with the KMA forecasting lows of -12°C in Seoul, and even lower in some mountainous regions of Gangwon province (-15°C). The cold snap is expected to ease slightly by Sunday (12th).

Heavy snowfall, particularly in Chungnam and Jeolla provinces, is also predicted. The KMA anticipates that the combined effects of snowfall, icy roads, and freezing temperatures will create dangerous conditions. Up to 40 cm of snow is forecast for parts of Jeollabuk-do province, with significant accumulations also expected in other regions. The KMA warned of potential blizzard warnings, especially in areas where snowfall rates may reach 3-5 cm per hour.

This severe weather forecast comes in stark contrast to the early appearance of crocuses in Jeju’s Sara봉 Park, a surprising and picturesque scene captured today. The juxtaposition highlights the unpredictable nature of the season’s weather patterns. Authorities are urging citizens to prepare for the extreme cold and potential travel disruptions.
