Mon Jan 06 22:42:03 IST 2025: ## Prashant Kishor Released on Unconditional Bail After 15-Hour Detention

**Patna, Bihar:** Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraj, was arrested early Monday morning and released on unconditional bail 15 hours later. The arrest, which followed his hunger strike in support of BPSC aspirants, sparked protests.

Kishor, who had begun his fast on January 2nd, was arrested at 4 am from Gandhi Maidan in Patna. His supporters allege police brutality during the arrest, claiming Kishor was slapped and forcibly removed. He was subsequently presented before the Patna Civil Court, which initially remanded him in 14 days of judicial custody.

While being transported to Beur Jail, the court order hadn’t reached jail authorities, leading to a temporary detention at Beur Police Station. However, Kishor’s lawyer, Shivanand Giri, later confirmed his release on bail. Despite being offered bail on the condition that he refrain from actions causing public disruption, Kishor refused, opting instead for unconditional release. He was released on a personal bond of ₹25,000.

Addressing the media after his release, Kishor stated that his hunger strike would continue. He announced a meeting at midnight to decide the location for the continued protest, adding that it would remain in Gandhi Maidan, describing the situation as a battle of wills between Bihar’s youth and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He asserted, “The youth of Bihar will win.”
