**KOCHI, January 5, 2025** – A two-day workshop titled “Understanding Arctic: Climate and the need for environmental protection” commenced in Kochi today. The event, a collaboration between the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), the University Grants Commission, and the Ministry of Earth Sciences, aims to shed light on the crucial role of polar studies in comprehending climate change and its impact on the Indian monsoon.
NCPOR Director Thamban Meloth inaugurated the workshop, emphasizing the significance of research in the Arctic region. The workshop is part of the UGC-SWAYAM Massive Open Online Course. Several speakers, including KUFOS Registrar K. Dinesh, researchers from NCPOR, and filmmaker Rakesh Rao, participated in the event, contributing their expertise to the discussions.
