Sun Jan 05 17:10:00 IST 2025: ## Northeast to Dodge Worst of Major Winter Storm; South Jersey Under Watch

**NEW YORK, NY** – While a major winter storm blankets the central U.S. with heavy snow and ice, the New York City metro area is expected to largely escape its worst effects, according to AccuWeather. The storm, which brought widespread heavy snow to the Midwest on Saturday, is projected to impact the Mid-Atlantic region Sunday and Monday.

While several inches of snow are anticipated in cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., New York City is only forecast to receive a coating to an inch of snow. Areas north of the city may see no accumulation at all. However, AccuWeather cautions that a northward shift in the storm’s track could increase snowfall in the city.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for parts of New Jersey south of Trenton, with 5 to 9 inches of snow possible in South Jersey.

Following the storm, dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are expected across the eastern two-thirds of the country, with temperatures potentially 12 to 25 degrees below normal. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates for the latest information.
