Sat Jan 04 21:03:21 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Issues Advisory on Respiratory Virus Amidst China Outbreak
**Hyderabad, India** – While a surge in Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) cases in China has raised global concerns, the Telangana government has proactively issued an advisory urging citizens to take preventative measures against respiratory infections. Although no hMPV cases have been reported in Telangana, the state’s Health Department is closely monitoring the situation in China and collaborating with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in New Delhi.
Dr. Ravindra Nayak, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, clarified that hMPV typically presents as a common cold or flu. A recent analysis of respiratory infection data showed no significant increase in December 2024 compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the advisory encourages preventative measures, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding crowded areas, and staying home when feeling unwell. Schools and educational institutions have also been advised to emphasize these precautions to students. The advisory further recommends maintaining good ventilation, avoiding self-medication, and refraining from close contact with sick individuals. The Telangana government emphasizes that while vigilance is important, there is currently no cause for widespread alarm.
