Sun Jan 05 08:30:00 UTC 2025: ## OYO Restricts Unmarried Couples from Hotel Check-In in India

**New Delhi:** Hotel booking platform OYO has implemented a new check-in policy restricting unmarried couples from booking rooms at its partner hotels in India. The policy, initially rolled out in Meerut, requires all couples to provide proof of their relationship at the time of check-in, regardless of booking method. OYO states that this decision was made in response to requests from civic groups and residents in Meerut and other cities concerned about social sensitivities.

While OYO claims to respect individual freedom, the company maintains its commitment to maintaining “safe and responsible hospitality practices.” The company asserts the policy is intended to offer a safe environment for families, students, business travelers, religious tourists, and solo travelers. OYO will review the policy’s effectiveness and impact regularly, with potential expansion to other cities pending assessment of the Meerut implementation’s feedback. Partner hotels have been given the discretion to refuse bookings from unmarried couples, aligning with local social norms. The policy is currently being considered for wider implementation across India.
