Nantwich, Cheshire – A new exhibition at the Nantwich Museum, titled “The Royal Rumble,” will open on January 7th and run until February 8th. The exhibit features armor, coins, and medals belonging to King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell, offering a glimpse into the tumultuous English Civil War. The exhibition is part of the town’s annual commemoration of the 1644 Battle of Nantwich, a pivotal clash where Nantwich remained the only Parliamentarian-held town in Cheshire.

The museum will also host four talks exploring different aspects of the Battle of Nantwich throughout January, along with three Civil War walking tours. The commemorations will culminate in a battle re-enactment on Mill Island on January 25th. The events highlight the significant historical impact of the battle and the period’s key figures. The conflict ultimately led to the trial and execution of Charles I in 1649.
