**Los Angeles, CA** – Acclaimed indie screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, has died at the age of 47. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Baena died by suicide.
Baena was best known for directing the 2014 comedy *Life After Beth*, starring Plaza, and co-writing the 2004 film *I Heart Huckabees*. His more recent work includes creating, writing, and directing the Showtime series *Cinema Toast* (2021) and the 2022 film *Spin Me Round*. He frequently collaborated with his wife, Plaza, on his projects.
The couple, who married in an impromptu backyard ceremony in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, were known for their close personal and professional relationship.
Baena is survived by Plaza, as well as his parents, siblings, and step-siblings.
