**ZUMBROTA, MN** – James D. DeFrang, a longtime Zumbrota resident and barber, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at the age of 80. He was surrounded by loved ones, holding the hand of his wife, Rita, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Mr. DeFrang, born in Plainview, Minnesota, served in the Army before establishing a successful barbering career spanning over five decades. Known for his dedication to his craft, he continued cutting hair until just two days before his illness. Beyond his profession, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, softball, and horseshoes. He was also a devoted family man, actively involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; children Michelle McNallan, Dan DeFrang, and Brian DeFrang; daughter-in-law Jess DeFrang; 12 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; and his brother Jerry DeFrang. He was preceded in death by his son Steven DeFrang, his parents, and his sister.

A private family ceremony will be held, followed by a public Celebration of Life at the Zumbrota VFW on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, from 1-4 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
