**Salem, Tamil Nadu, January 5, 2025** – The Mettur dam in Salem district is nearing its full capacity, with water levels reaching 119.14 feet out of 120 feet. The storage level stands at 92.10 TMC out of a total capacity of 93.47 TMC. While inflow has decreased to 1,128 cusecs from 1,992 cusecs the previous day, water discharge for irrigation remains at 12,300 cusecs.
In other news, a 30-year-old man, S. Selvaraj, has been arrested and remanded in prison for the murder of his 67-year-old uncle, Periasamy. Police say Selvaraj, an alcoholic, murdered his uncle following an argument over money and subsequently severed his head. The incident occurred in Puthiragoundampalayam, and police are investigating.
Finally, a fire at a puffed rice shop in Kamandapatti Pirivu destroyed most of the stock. The Omalur Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze, but the shop owner, Murugan, suffered significant losses. Omalur police are investigating the cause of the fire.
