Sun Jan 05 21:15:23 IST 2025: ## Barcelona Battles La Liga Over Player Registrations, Heads to Court Again

**Barcelona** is facing another legal battle with **La Liga** over the registration of two players, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The league has blocked their registration due to Barcelona exceeding La Liga’s salary cap following the expiration of injury-related exemptions used earlier in the season. The club is appealing to the Higher Sports Council (CSD) for a precautionary measure to allow the players’ registration via court order.

Olmo, signed from RB Leipzig, and Victor, promoted from Barcelona B, were initially registered using a loophole allowing the club to utilize 80% of an injured player’s salary (Andreas Christensen’s in this case). This temporary measure expired at the end of 2023. Despite attempts to comply with financial fair play rules through the sale of VIP boxes at Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona failed to provide sufficient proof of funds to La Liga’s satisfaction.

The RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement’s Monitoring Committee cited regulations preventing a player whose license is canceled from being re-registered by the same club within the same season. Barcelona has already lost two appeals on this matter. While Olmo reportedly has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free if unregistered, he is reportedly committed to staying.

The club’s financial struggles are a recurring theme. While past maneuvers like selling media rights and signing stadium naming rights deals helped circumvent similar issues, La Liga’s stricter spending cap presents ongoing challenges. Barcelona maintains its determination to find a solution, highlighting the complexities of navigating the league’s financial regulations. The outcome of the CSD hearing could significantly impact Barcelona’s season, currently sitting third in La Liga. The team’s next match is against Getafe on January 18th.
