**Chennai, January 5, 2025** – The Chennai Press Club issued a strong condemnation today following the murder of freelance journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, 36, in Chhattisgarh. Chandrakar, who reported extensively on the Maoist conflict in Bastar and maintained a popular YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers, was found dead in a septic tank on January 3rd, after going missing on January 1st.
Three individuals have been detained by Chhattisgarh police in connection with the murder. The Press Club’s statement urged both the Union and Chhattisgarh governments to launch a thorough investigation and take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of journalists across the country.
