**New Orleans, LA (January 5, 2025)** – A devastating truck attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day has claimed the lives of 14 people and injured at least 30 more, with 16 remaining hospitalized, half in critical condition. The victims, ranging in age from 18 to 63, hailed from several states including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey and Great Britain.

One of the victims has been identified as Edward Pettifer, 31, a British citizen and stepson of a former nanny to the Royal Family. Prince William expressed shock and sadness at the news of Pettifer’s death. The family released a statement expressing their devastation. The UK Foreign Office is supporting the family and is in contact with U.S. authorities.

Other identified victims include Terrence Kennedy, 63, a New Orleans native; Billy DiMaio, 25, from New Jersey; Hubert Gauthreaux, 21; Kareem Badawi, 23; Andrew Dauphin, 26; Matthew Tenedorio, 25; Reggie Hunter, 37; Tiger Bech, 27; Nicole Perez, 27; and Elliot Wilkinson, 40. Heartbreaking tributes have poured in from families and friends, describing the victims as kind, loving, and devoted to their families and communities.

The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was fatally shot by police following a firefight. The cause of death for all 14 victims was determined to be blunt force trauma. Authorities are still working to identify one remaining female victim.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared a period of mourning, beginning January 6th, with each day dedicated to remembering a different victim. He emphasized the state’s resilience and determination to unite in the face of this tragedy.

The attack has left the community reeling, with numerous GoFundMe campaigns launched to support the families of the victims and injured. Several universities have also released statements confirming the deaths and injuries of their students. The incident is under investigation.
