Sat Jan 04 12:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Central Indiana Braces for First Winter Storm Warning Since January

**INDIANAPOLIS, IN** – Central Indiana is preparing for its first winter storm warning since January 2023, the National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis announced. The warning, effective from midday Sunday to early Monday afternoon, covers much of the central region. A winter weather advisory is in effect for an area stretching from Lafayette to Muncie, where snowfall predictions are less certain.

The NWS predicts snowfall will begin Sunday morning in southwestern Indiana, gradually spreading across central Indiana by the afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is expected late Sunday into Sunday night, with a potential mix of sleet in south-central Indiana. Areas along and south of Interstate 70 are expected to see the most significant accumulation, with snowfall totals potentially reaching 5-10 inches. North-central Indiana may see considerably less snow.

Today will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the mid-20s and wind chills in the teens. Overnight lows will be in the upper teens. After the storm passes on Monday, lighter snow showers are anticipated, but conditions should dry out by the afternoon. High temperatures will remain in the upper 20s.

The NWS cautions that the forecast, particularly snowfall totals, could still change given the time until the storm’s arrival. Following the storm, colder temperatures will prevail throughout the week, with no further precipitation expected. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates for the latest information.
