**New Delhi, January 4, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today distributed keys to 1,675 new flats in Ashok Vihar, northwest Delhi, as part of a slum rehabilitation project. The event, held at Ashok Vihar’s district park, saw beneficiaries receive symbolic keys to their new homes in the Swabhiman Apartments.

Mr. Modi, who recalled residing in Ashok Vihar during the Emergency, emphasized the significance of the project. He interacted with several beneficiaries, including Md. Manjoor Shah, a mat weaver who expressed his joy at fulfilling his dream of owning a home in Delhi.

The Swabhiman Apartment project mirrors a similar initiative in Kalkaji Extension, inaugurated by Mr. Modi in November 2022. Each flat costs the government ₹25 lakh, with eligible beneficiaries contributing a nominal amount of less than 7% (approximately ₹1.42 lakh) plus ₹30,000 for five years of maintenance. The project is aimed at improving the living conditions of slum dwellers and providing them with affordable housing.
