Fri Jan 03 22:03:36 UTC 2025: ## Bourbon Street Reopens After Deadly New Year’s Attack; City Shows Resilience

**New Orleans, LA** – Bourbon Street has reopened to the public just days after a deadly car-ramming attack left 14 dead and 35 injured on New Year’s Day. The attack, which authorities are investigating as an act of terrorism, saw 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US military veteran, drive a rented pick-up truck into a crowd of revelers. Jabbar, who law enforcement officials say was inspired by ISIS, was killed in a shootout with police.

A memorial has been erected on Bourbon Street where the attack occurred, as residents and visitors alike pay their respects to the victims. Several victims have been publicly identified, including Kareem Badawi, Nikyra Dedeaux, Reggie Hunter, and Nicole Perez.

Despite the tragedy, Bourbon Street reopened Thursday afternoon following a swift cleanup operation. Street performers, tourists, and brass bands have returned, aiming to restore the vibrant atmosphere of the iconic street. Trombone player Jonas Green emphasized the healing power of music in the face of tragedy, stating, “I know with this music, it heals.”

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry urged the city to show resilience, declaring, “This city will be back, will be open to family and friends and loved ones who want some time to relax from the pressures of life.” However, a federal law enforcement bulletin has warned of potential copycat or retaliatory attacks. The investigation into the incident continues.
