Sat Jan 04 06:48:54 UTC 2025: ## Veteran Communist Leader and Farmers’ Rights Activist G.C. Bayya Reddy Passes Away

**Bengaluru, January 4, 2025** – Prominent Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and farmers’ rights activist G.C. Bayya Reddy passed away early Saturday morning at a Bengaluru hospital due to breathing complications. He was 64.

Reddy, who served as the state president of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) since 2017, had been a key figure in the Left movement for over five decades. His involvement began in 1981 with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), where he held the state president’s position from 1987 to 1994. He was also a state polit bureau member of the CPI(M) since 1991 and a coordinator in the farmers’ coalition opposing the contentious farm laws.

Reddy’s contributions extended significantly to farmers’ agitations across Karnataka. His passing has drawn condolences from numerous political leaders, labor leaders, and activists, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The CPI(M) has announced that the public can pay their respects at the party’s office, EMS Bhavan in Bengaluru, until 4 p.m. today. The funeral will be held in his native village, Gadigavarahalli in Kolar district, at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
