**Melbourne, Australia** – The Melbourne Stars snatched a thrilling five-wicket victory over the Melbourne Renegades in a Big Bash League derby at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday. A stunning half-century from Ben Duckett and late-innings heroics from Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell secured the win for the Stars, who overcame a shaky start to their chase.

The Renegades, batting first, got off to a slow start, losing early wickets and struggling to build momentum. While Jacob Bethell (49) and Jonathan Wells (45) provided a crucial partnership of 71 runs, the Renegades ultimately managed only 168/7 from their 20 overs. Gurinder Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers for the Stars, taking 3/29.

The Stars’ chase began disastrously, losing two quick wickets in the second over to leave them reeling at 3/2. However, Duckett anchored the innings with a magnificent 67, his third half-century of the season. He received valuable support from captain Marcus Stoinis (48), who also played aggressively.

With the required rate climbing, the Renegades fought back, claiming the wickets of both Duckett and Stoinis in successive overs. However, Cartwright and Maxwell delivered the finishing touches, smashing crucial boundaries in the final stages to secure victory with four balls to spare. Cartwright’s monstrous 121-meter six was a particular highlight.

The win marks a significant turnaround for the Stars, who had lost their first five matches of the season. This victory comes as their second consecutive win, boosting their chances in the tournament.
