**Sydney, Australia** – Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah left the field on Day 2 of the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney due to a back spasm. After experiencing discomfort following an over bowled after lunch, Bumrah left the field and was seen leaving the stadium with the team’s security officer and doctor. Scans revealed a back spasm. While he is fit to bat, his participation in bowling will be decided on Day 3.

With Bumrah sidelined, Virat Kohli captained India, leading the team to a 4-run lead. Bumrah, who is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 32 wickets from 152 overs, had taken 2 wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs before his injury.

Bumrah was leading the team in place of Rohit Sharma, who opted himself out of the match. Sharma clarified that this was not a retirement, stating his decision was made for the good of the team. Shubman Gill replaced Sharma in the playing XI.

The Indian team management confirmed Bumrah’s fitness for batting, however, his availability for bowling remains uncertain until further evaluation.
