**Salem, January 3, 2025** – The water discharge from the Mettur Dam into the Cauvery River for delta irrigation has been increased to 12,000 cusecs, up from 10,000 cusecs on Thursday, January 2nd. The dam’s water level currently stands at 119.76 feet, nearing its full capacity of 120 feet, with a storage level of 93.08 TMC out of a full capacity of 93.47 TMC.
Inflow into the dam also increased to 1,992 cusecs, compared to 1,871 cusecs the previous day. Water discharge for canal irrigation remains at 300 cusecs.
Water Resources Department officials stated that the increase in discharge was implemented in response to farmer demand in the delta region, with adjustments made every four hours since Thursday. Officials further indicated that the discharge may be further increased to 20,000 cusecs depending on continued demand.
