**Guwahati, Assam, January 3, 2025** – Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced Friday that Tata Electronics’ new semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, Assam, will begin producing “Made in India” chips in 2026. The plant, touted as India’s largest, will supply chips to the automobile and telecom industries globally, including Japan, the U.S., and Germany.
Minister Vaishnaw hailed the project as a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, emphasizing its role in boosting the nation’s global standing. He highlighted the creation of a complete ecosystem around the plant, including an electronic city to house approximately 40,000 employees. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his contribution to the project. He also noted that the advanced semiconductor technology employed positions Assam at the forefront of this crucial industry.
The announcement coincided with the inauguration of three new trains in Guwahati by the Northeast Frontier Railway, along with a new Road Over Bridge at Tetelia station. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, were also present at the event.
