Thu Jan 02 16:59:09 UTC 2025: ## Lone Wolf Terror Attack Kills 14 in New Orleans

**New Orleans, LA –** A lone U.S. Army veteran, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans, killing 14 and injuring dozens more in what authorities are calling a premeditated act of terrorism inspired by the Islamic State group. The FBI initially investigated the possibility of accomplices but confirmed Thursday that Jabbar acted alone.

Jabbar, a Texas resident, posted videos on Facebook hours before the attack declaring his allegiance to ISIS and his intention to kill. A black ISIS flag was found in his truck, along with firearms and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device. He was shot and killed by police after exchanging fire with officers; two officers sustained injuries but are in stable condition. The attack, which took place on Bourbon Street, caused a chaotic scene with bloodied bodies and fleeing civilians.

The FBI recovered evidence from Jabbar’s Houston-area home, but no further arrests have been made as of Thursday. Initial reports placed the death toll at 15, including Jabbar. The Sugar Bowl college football game, postponed due to the attack, resumed Thursday. New Orleans is still scheduled to host the Super Bowl next month, although security protocols are now under scrutiny following this incident.

President Biden expressed his condolences to the victims and the city. While another deadly explosion occurred in Las Vegas on the same day, the FBI said they have no evidence linking the two events. Local and federal officials are investigating Jabbar’s potential ties to terrorist organizations, and exploring whether security measures in place were adequate to prevent the attack. The incident is being considered the deadliest ISIS-inspired attack on U.S. soil in years.
