Fri Jan 03 03:50:01 UTC 2025: ## ISIS-Inspired Attack Kills 14 on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street
**New Orleans, LA –** A deadly truck attack on New Year’s Day in New Orleans left at least 14 people dead and dozens injured. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas and former U.S. Army serviceman, was shot and killed by police after plowing his vehicle into a crowd of revelers on Bourbon Street.
The FBI confirmed that Jabbar, who had served an 11-month deployment in Afghanistan, posted several videos online shortly before the attack declaring his allegiance to ISIS and outlining his plan. While initially investigating potential accomplices, the FBI now believes Jabbar acted alone. Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia stated definitively that there is no evidence suggesting anyone else was involved.
Jabbar rented a Ford electric pickup truck via the peer-to-peer rental app Turo and drove from Houston to New Orleans on December 31st. He planted two active improvised explosive devices (IEDs) – rudimentary pipe bombs containing shrapnel – in the French Quarter, which were later safely disabled by authorities. President Biden confirmed that a remote detonator was found in the vehicle.
Jabbar was armed with an AR-15-style weapon and a handgun, one equipped with a suppressor, and wore body armor. Investigators are examining how he obtained these weapons. Three phones and two laptops have been recovered for forensic analysis.
While the motive remains under investigation, the FBI stated that Jabbar was unequivocally inspired by ISIS. Although conflicting reports initially circulated regarding additional IEDs, the FBI confirmed that only the two devices found in the French Quarter were active and posed a threat. Bourbon Street has reopened to the public.
The FBI is urging anyone with information or video footage to contact investigators. Authorities are also investigating a potential link between this attack and a separate incident in Las Vegas involving a Tesla Cybertruck explosion near Trump Towers, both involving vehicles rented through Turo and U.S. military veterans who served in Afghanistan. However, officials have indicated they have not yet found any direct connection between the two perpetrators.
