**Visakhapatnam, India –** Two Indian Navy skydivers collided mid-air during a rehearsal for the Eastern Naval Command’s (ENC) operational demonstration in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. The incident occurred around 5:40 pm as the divers were gliding down with their parachutes near RK Beach. Witnesses reported seeing the parachutes become entangled before the divers fell into the sea.
Despite the dramatic collision, both personnel were unharmed and swiftly rescued by the Navy’s emergency sea crew. Spectators expressed relief that the divers landed in the water, avoiding potential serious injuries had they fallen on land. Strong winds in the area may have contributed to the incident, according to one witness.
The ENC spokesperson was unavailable for comment. The main operational demonstration, a special January event continuing a tradition in Visakhapatnam, will proceed as planned. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan are expected to attend, along with ENC Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice-Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar. The annual event was previously held in Puri, Odisha, on December 4, 2024.
