Thu Jan 02 17:19:04 UTC 2025: ## Hand Grenade Found Near Home of Missing Man, Defused by Police

**Imphal, Manipur –** A hand grenade was discovered outside the home of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh in Imphal West district on Thursday, sparking fear and prompting a police response. Singh, a works supervisor who went missing from the Leimakhong Military Station in November, is at the center of ongoing protests.

The grenade, found near the gate of Singh’s house at Loitang Khunou, was retrieved and defused by police. A note accompanying the grenade demanded the disbandment of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to protest Singh’s disappearance and the creation of a new committee excluding land contractors. The JAC has been leading the protests since Singh’s disappearance on November 25th.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh previously stated that the case would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Singh, a native of Assam’s Cachar district and a member of the Metei community, worked for a contractor with the Military Engineering Services (MES) at the Leimakhong Military Station. Over 2,000 security personnel were previously deployed in the search for him, and state officials have reportedly sent relevant documents to the Prime Minister’s Office and the offices of the Defence and Home Ministers. The incident adds another layer of complexity to the already tense situation surrounding Singh’s disappearance.
