Thu Jan 02 05:28:53 UTC 2025: ## ISIS-Inspired Terrorist Attack Kills 15 in New Orleans on New Year’s Day

**New Orleans, LA** – A suspected ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter on New Year’s Day left at least 15 dead and 35 injured. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US Army veteran, drove a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, displaying an ISIS flag, into a crowd of revelers celebrating on Bourbon Street around 3:15 am.

Security camera footage and social media videos show Jabbar’s truck maneuvering around inadequate security barriers on Canal Street before speeding onto Bourbon Street, plowing through the dense crowd. Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as people scrambled to escape.

Jabbar, who police described as a terrorist, was subsequently killed in a shootout with police, two of whom sustained injuries. Three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), including one found in Jabbar’s truck, were discovered near the scene. Authorities are investigating whether Jabbar acted alone, noting the possibility of accomplices.

President Joe Biden condemned the attack as “despicable,” stating that Jabbar had posted online videos prior to the incident indicating his allegiance to ISIS. Law enforcement is exploring potential links between the New Orleans attack and the unrelated explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside a Las Vegas hotel partly owned by President-elect Donald Trump, which resulted in one fatality. However, Las Vegas police currently consider that incident isolated.

Jabbar’s military history, including service in Afghanistan from 2009-2010 as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, is under scrutiny. He served as a human resources and IT specialist from 2007-2020, with a period in the Army Reserve. The inadequate security measures at the time of the attack, which allowed Jabbar to breach barriers, are also under investigation.
