**GURUGRAM, INDIA –** Gurugram Police apprehended a notorious criminal and two accomplices following a shootout late Tuesday night into Wednesday. The dramatic arrest unfolded after a high-speed chase involving a stolen canter truck carrying stolen cows.
The suspects, identified as Arif (28), Arif alias Mandal (27), and Rashid alias Yusuf alias Kake (33), were apprehended near Medwas village after a cow smuggling incident in Sector 65. When police attempted to stop the truck, the suspects opened fire, prompting a return of fire. Two suspects were injured in the leg.
Rashid, a resident of Nuh, has a lengthy criminal record, with 49 cases against him including gang-related activities, murder, attempted murder, robbery, attacks on police, and ATM theft. Arif and Arif alias Mandal, residents of Palwal, face charges including attempted murder and cow smuggling.
During the exchange of gunfire, ten shots were fired: four by the suspects and six by police. Police recovered the stolen canter, a country-made pistol, a pistol, live ammunition, spent shell casings, and the stolen cow and calf. The canter had been stolen on December 24th from Bilaspur police station.
The incident also uncovered a connection to a 2009 cow smuggling case where a Gurugram police officer was killed; Rashid was involved. Arif and Rashid are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries and will be formally arrested upon their discharge. A case has been registered against the trio at the Sector-65 Police Station. The ACP (crime), Varun Dahiya, confirmed the details of the incident and recoveries.
