PITTSBURGH, PA – The University of Pittsburgh Panthers will be without one of their key players for their ACC home opener against the California Golden Bears on New Year’s Day. Senior guard Ishmael Leggett, a preseason All-ACC Second Team selection, will miss the game due to a lower body injury.

Leggett, who transferred to Pitt after three seasons at Rhode Island, is averaging 17.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game this season. He is one of only four NCAA players currently averaging at least 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals. This is the first game Leggett has missed this season and only the second he’s missed in his two years with the Panthers.

The Panthers are already without graduate student guard Damian Dunn, who has been sidelined for the past five games following thumb surgery. Both Dunn and Leggett were seen on the bench in street clothes during pre-game warm-ups. Pitt will face a significant challenge against Cal, shorthanded in the backcourt.
