New Orleans, LA – A horrific terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans’ French Quarter left at least 10 people dead and dozens more injured. The incident began when a driver, identified by the FBI as 42-year-old U.S. citizen Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas, plowed a rented Ford pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street, ignoring barricades.

New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated that Jabbar intentionally targeted civilians, aiming to inflict maximum casualties. An ISIS flag was discovered inside the truck, along with weapons and what the FBI described as potential improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additional IEDs were subsequently found in the French Quarter, prompting the FBI’s bomb squad to secure the area.

Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police following the attack. The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on the detonated suspicious packages near St. Louis Cathedral following the initial vehicle attack on Bourbon Street. Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation.
