Wed Jan 01 19:57:21 UTC 2025: ## Hospital Fire in Ramanathapuram Leaves Patients Displaced, No Injuries Reported

**Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, January 2, 2025** – A fire broke out Wednesday night at the Government Ramanathapuram Medical College Hospital, forcing the evacuation of numerous patients. The blaze, originating in a second-floor electrical panel room, quickly filled sections of the building with smoke.

While the fire was swiftly extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Services, the lingering smoke necessitated the relocation of patients from the second, third, and fourth floors. Hospital staff moved patients, including two from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to safer locations using wheelchairs and beds. The ICU patients were transferred to the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) unit.

District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon confirmed that an electrical short circuit is suspected to be the cause. He reported that the hospital’s fire alarm system and sprinklers functioned correctly, helping to contain the fire. No injuries or casualties were reported.
