Wed Jan 01 23:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Penn State Edges Out Boise State, One Win Away From National Title Game
**GLENDALE, AZ** – In a hard-fought Fiesta Bowl victory, the No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the No. 3 Boise State Broncos 31-14, securing their place in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Penn State dominated early, jumping out to a 14-0 lead, but Boise State fought back throughout the game, capitalizing on a Penn State fumble and consistently threatening to close the gap.
Missed opportunities plagued the Broncos. A touchdown pass was called back due to a penalty, and kicker Jonah Dalmas missed two crucial field goals, one in the fourth quarter that would have cut the lead to seven points. Boise State also had a late interception opportunity and struggled to capitalize on red-zone possessions.
While Boise State kept the pressure on, Penn State ultimately sealed the victory. Running back Nicholas Singleton’s 58-yard touchdown run with just under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. Earlier, key plays by quarterback Drew Allar, including a touchdown pass to Tyler Warren and a clutch scramble for a first down, kept Penn State’s offense moving.
The Nittany Lions’ defense also played a significant role, securing interceptions in the fourth quarter and holding Boise State’s running game largely in check. Although Boise State receiver Matt Lauter managed a 53-yard touchdown reception, Penn State’s defense ultimately proved too much to overcome.
Penn State will now face the winner of the Notre Dame-Georgia semifinal game for a spot in the national championship.
