**NEW DELHI** – While the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is yet to officially release the 2025 bank holiday calendar, most banks across India are expected to be closed on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, in observance of New Year’s Day. This is according to current news reports. Banks in Mizoram and Sikkim will, however, be closed on December 31st, 2024.
Although physical branches will likely be closed, online banking and mobile banking services will remain operational. ATMs will also continue to function, ensuring customers can still access their funds.
The RBI determines the annual bank holiday schedule, considering national and regional events, religious festivals, and cultural observances, in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act. The official calendar will be published on the RBI website once finalized.
A tentative list of bank holidays for January 2025 includes several regional and national observances, such as Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, Lohri, Pongal, Republic Day, and more. The full list will be available once officially released by the RBI. Customers are advised to check the RBI website for the complete and confirmed holiday schedule.
