**New Delhi:** The Supreme Court of India will be led by three Chief Justices in 2025, following a year of significant retirements. A total of seven judges, including two Chief Justices, will retire this year.
Currently, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna will retire on May 13, 2025, after assuming the role on November 11, 2024. Justice Khanna joined the Supreme Court from the Delhi High Court on January 18, 2019.
He will be succeeded by Justice B.R. Gavai, who will serve as Chief Justice for six months, until November 23, 2025. Justice Gavai will then be followed by Justice Surya Kant, whose tenure will extend until approximately February 2027.
Besides the two Chief Justices, five other judges will retire in 2025: Justice C.T. Ravi Kumar (January 5), Justice Hrishikesh Roy (January 31), Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka (May 24), Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi (June 9), and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia (August 9).
