**Yadgir, January 1, 2025** – A 21-year-old woman and her newborn baby died at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Raichur, Karnataka. Shivalingamma, from Masidapur village, was admitted to the hospital on December 27th after being referred from Manvi Taluk Hospital due to preeclampsia. Doctors performed a Cesarean section, but the baby died three days later. Despite continued treatment and ventilator support, Shivalingamma succumbed to uncontrolled blood pressure on Wednesday. RIMS Hospital Medical Superintendent K. Bhaskar stated that despite expert efforts, the mother’s life could not be saved. The incident has raised concerns about the quality of maternal care at the hospital.
