Tue Dec 31 16:26:18 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Electricity Board to Continue Fuel Surcharge Collection in January

**Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31, 2024** – The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has authorized the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to continue collecting a 9 paise per unit fuel surcharge from consumers in January. This follows an interim order in November granting the same permission for December. The KSEB had originally requested 17 paise per unit to recover outstanding fuel surcharges from April to July 2024.

The total surcharge for January will amount to 19 paise per unit, as the KSEB also collects a standard 10 paise per unit for additional power purchase expenses incurred in November 2024. The surcharge applies to all consumers except domestic users with a connected load of up to 1000 watts and monthly consumption below 40 units. The KSERC’s decision is based on Regulation 87(7), which allows for the recovery of excess fuel costs.
