Wed Jan 01 07:20:48 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Software Professional’s Inspiring Journey from Film Extra to National Para Table Tennis Competitor

**CHENNAI, January 1, 2025** – Ramgopal D., a 49-year-old software professional from Chennai, has defied the odds to become a successful para table tennis player. His journey, which began with a small role in a Sachin Tendulkar-starring film promoting accessibility, is a testament to his resilience and determination.

Ramgopal, who contracted polio as a child, faced numerous employment rejections due to his disability. However, a job at Laser Soft Infosystems Limited (later acquired by Polarsis), a company known for its inclusive workplace culture, proved to be a turning point. There, he discovered his passion for table tennis, honing his skills during work breaks and project assignments.

A pivotal moment came with his introduction to Michael Roy, a para table tennis champion, who encouraged him to compete in the Paralympics. In 2018, Ramgopal made his national debut, achieving a seventh-place ranking. He now balances his demanding career at Patterns Cognitive with his competitive table tennis career. Despite challenges like inaccessible training facilities, he perseveres, recently securing third place in the Class IV category at the National Open Rotary Para Table Tennis Tournament. He also served as a judge at the tournament, which saw over 220 participants from across India. The tournament, organized by the Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna RI District 3234, provided participants with free travel, accommodation, and cash prizes. Table tennis legend Sharad Kamal presented the awards.

Ramgopal’s story highlights the importance of inclusivity and the power of perseverance in overcoming adversity. His success is an inspiration to others with disabilities, demonstrating that limitations can be overcome with dedication and the right support.
