Wed Jan 01 09:47:51 UTC 2025: ## Telugu Anthology Celebrates Hitchcock’s Centenary

**Hyderabad, January 1, 2025** – A new Telugu-language book, “Master of Suspense: Hitchcock,” celebrates the centenary of Alfred Hitchcock’s directorial debut and the legacy of the master of suspense. The 528-page anthology, compiled by journalist Pulagam Chinnarayana and senior civil servant Ravi Padi, features over 60 essays exploring Hitchcock’s filmography through the perspectives of 45 Telugu filmmakers, 10 journalists, and seven writers.

The project, two years in the making, was inspired by a 2018 conversation and Chinnarayana’s pandemic-era reflection on the potential impact of social isolation on filmmaking. The book includes essays on Hitchcock’s silent films by senior film writer ML Narasimham, and individual chapters by renowned Telugu directors such as Singeetam Sreenivasa Rao, Vamsi, Puri Jagannath, Harish Shankar, and Indraganti Mohanakrishna, each analyzing a specific Hitchcock film. Additional contributions come from comedian Gundu Sudarshan Rao, documentary filmmaker Indraganti Kiranmayee, and several writers and critics. Padi’s contributions add historical context and anecdotes.

Launched at the Hyderabad Book Fair in December 2024, the book, priced at ₹650, has already sold out its first edition of 500 copies, with a second edition underway. It will be available at the Vijayawada Book Festival from January 2-12. Chinnarayana hopes the book will serve as a valuable resource for both cinephiles and aspiring filmmakers. “Master of Suspense: Hitchcock” is also available for online purchase.
