Tue Dec 31 18:12:05 UTC 2024: ## Lalbagh Botanical Garden to Host Republic Day Flower Show Dedicated to Maharishi Valmiki

**Bengaluru, January 1, 2025** – The Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru is preparing for its 217th annual Republic Day flower show, scheduled to begin on January 16th. This year’s theme will celebrate Maharishi Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana.

The Horticulture Department confirmed the theme selection after a slight delay due to December’s legislative sessions. While the central theme is set, officials indicate that the detailed designs and displays are still being finalized and will be completed within the next few days.

The flower show, held twice yearly (for Republic and Independence Days), typically runs for eleven days and takes place around the Glass House in Lalbagh. The previous Independence Day show, focused on B.R. Ambedkar, attracted 9.07 lakh visitors and generated ₹3.44 crore in revenue. The 2024 Republic Day show, themed around Basavanna and other Vachana writers, saw a record 5.61 lakh visitors and earned ₹2.58 crore.

In addition to the main flower show, the Horticulture Department is organizing a competition on January 18th for horticulture enthusiasts from government and private offices, as well as home gardeners. Participants will showcase their plants and artwork, including Ikebana, Janur, and Thai art.
