Wed Jan 01 11:04:28 UTC 2025: ## Blinkit’s New Year’s Eve Orders Spark Debate on Gig Worker Wages

**New Delhi, January 1, 2025** – Blinkit, the Zomato-backed quick commerce platform, reported record-breaking orders on New Year’s Eve, with over 122,000 condom packs, 45,000 bottles of mineral water, and thousands of other party supplies delivered. CEO Albinder Dhindsa boasted about the company’s success on X, highlighting the high volume of orders and generous tips received by delivery partners.

However, comedian Kunal Kamra criticized Dhindsa’s celebratory post, questioning the platform’s treatment of its gig workers. Kamra, known for his outspoken criticism of corporate practices, accused Blinkit and similar platforms of exploiting delivery personnel, referring to them as “landlords without owning any land” who profit from the labor of others without providing adequate compensation. He demanded transparency regarding the average wages paid to Blinkit’s delivery partners in 2024.

Kamra’s criticism follows a broader discussion surrounding the working conditions and compensation of gig workers in India’s rapidly expanding quick commerce sector. While Blinkit’s website claims delivery partners can earn up to ₹50,000 per month with incentives and benefits, Kamra argues that these figures do not reflect the realities faced by many on the ground.

Dhindsa has yet to respond to Kamra’s accusations. The controversy highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the ethical implications of gig work and the need for greater transparency and regulation within the quick commerce industry.
