Wed Jan 01 13:04:18 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Nurse on Death Row: Husband Appeals for Government Intervention

**THODUPUZHA, KERALA – January 1, 2025** – The husband of Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse facing imminent execution in Yemen, has issued a desperate plea for government intervention. Tomy Thomas stated that he has received no contact from either state or central authorities regarding his wife’s case, despite her death sentence being upheld by Yemeni President Rashad Al Alimi on Monday. Priya was convicted of murdering Yemeni national Talal Abdu Mahadi in 2017.

With only one month remaining before the scheduled execution, Thomas urged immediate action. He stressed the need for negotiations with the victim’s family to secure their agreement to accept “blood money,” a traditional method of resolving such cases in Yemen. He believes that once this agreement is reached, securing the necessary funds would be a relatively straightforward process.

Thomas cited the ongoing tense situation in Yemen as a reason for delays in pursuing Priya’s release, impacting the progress of necessary paperwork. He is currently caring for the couple’s daughter, who is in seventh standard.

While the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement assuring that the government is providing all possible assistance to Priya’s family, Thomas’s statement highlights the urgent need for direct engagement with Yemeni authorities and the victim’s family to save his wife’s life.
