Wed Jan 01 17:13:45 UTC 2025: ## New Orleans Truck Attack Leaves 10 Dead, Dozens Injured

**New Orleans, LA** – A horrific incident unfolded early Wednesday morning in New Orleans’ French Quarter, leaving 10 people dead and over 30 injured after a truck plowed into a crowd celebrating New Year’s. The incident occurred around 3:15 am at the intersection of Bourbon and Iberville streets.

According to witnesses, a truck speeding down Bourbon Street rammed through a barricade before striking pedestrians. The driver then exited the vehicle and reportedly opened fire, prompting police to return fire. Emergency responders rushed the injured to five local hospitals.

The attack occurred just hours before the Allstate Sugar Bowl, a college football quarterfinal game scheduled for the Caesars Superdome. Thousands of people were expected to attend the event.

Authorities, including the New Orleans Police Department and NOLA Ready (New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness), issued urgent warnings via social media urging people to clear the area. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry described the event as a “horrific act of violence.”

This incident follows a pattern of violence in New Orleans during large celebrations. In November 2022, two separate shootings along a parade route resulted in two deaths and ten injuries. A similar incident occurred in February 2017 when an intoxicated driver crashed into a Mardi Gras parade crowd, injuring approximately 20 people. The motive behind Wednesday’s attack is currently under investigation.
