**Peshawar, Pakistan –** A militant assault on a security post in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a civilian on December 31st, 2024. According to local police official Abdullah Khan, the attackers, armed with assault rifles, targeted the Draban Post, also wounding another officer. A Customs department employee was the second fatality. While no group immediately claimed responsibility, suspicion falls on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a frequent attacker of Pakistani security forces. The TTP, emboldened by the Afghan Taliban’s 2021 takeover of Afghanistan, has seen increased activity in the northwest of the country. Pakistani security forces have launched increased intelligence-based operations in response.
